1. Download Mailshell Exchange Plugin
Download
the Mailshell Exchange Plugin software to your computer.
2. Create User Account
On the Exchange server create a user account that is a
member of the Administrator and Exchange Domain Servers
group. As an example, we will create an account called
"es" with password "stopspam".
You should see something like:
3. Log In to Server
Log in to the Exchange server with the account created
in step 2.
4. Install Exchange Plugin
Install the Mailshell Exchange Plugin by running MailshellExchangePlugin.exe.
5. Run the Exchange Plugin Manager
From the Start Menu select
"Programs > Mailshell Exchange Plugin > Exchange
Plugin Manager".
You should see something like:
6. Register Application
Enter the username and password that was created in step
2 in the "Application Identity" and "Password"
fields. For example, "es" and "stopspam".
Click on the "Register Application" button to register
the application.
You should see something like:
Please note: For Exchange 2003, the user
"es" needs to be given full control of the Exchange
Mailbox Store. Additionally, access checks for the Mailshell
Exchange Plugin application needs to be disabled. For instructions,
click here.
7. Register Event Sink
Select a system mailbox and click on the "Register Event"
button.
You should see something like:
8. Test Plugin
To test the Exchange plugin, send a spam message to your
Exchange server. By default, messages with the "X-SpamCatcher-Flag:
Yes" header (inserted by Mailshell's Gateway software)
will be moved to the SpamCatcher folder.
Other gateway software will likely require
a different "Spam Header" setting. The gateway's
documentation should be consulted to determine the proper
header setting.
Exchange 2003/Windows 2003
For Exchange 2003, the "es" user will have to be given full control
of the Exchange Mailbox Store and access checks for the Mailshell Exchange
Plugin application will have to be disabled.
Give User Access to Mailbox Store
1. Open Exchange System Manager.
2. Expand Servers > YourServer > First Storage
Group.
3. Right click Mailbox Store and select Properties.
4. Click on the Security tab.
5. Add the "es" user and make sure it has Full
control.
6. Click the Apply and OK buttons.
Disable Access Checks for Application
1. Open the Component Services applet. Click Start
> Administrative Tools > Component Services.
2. Expand Component Services > Computers > My Computer
> COM+ Applications.
3. Right Click on MailshellExchangePlugin and select
Properties.
4. Click on the Security tab and uncheck "Enforce
access checks for this application".
5. Click OK button to save changes.
