Stalker Software and Mailshell's
Anti-Spam Solution Gains Rapid Adoption Among Linux-Based
Corporations
Customers Cite Accuracy and Increased ROI; Rapid Deployments
in the Education, ISP, Healthcare and Media Markets
LINUX WORLD, San Francisco, (August 4, 2003)
- Stalker Software, Inc., the technology leader in messaging
solutions, and Mailshell, developer of the most accurate
and easy to integrate anti-spam engine, today announced
that more than 30 corporations have purchased and deployed
the Linux version of the solution. The joint Stalker Software/Mailshell
Linux plug-in, released in April of this year, which integrates
Mailshell's spam-catching engine with CommuniGate Pro, improves
an enterprise's ability to intercept and block unsolicited
e-mail. In total, more than 100 organizations running Linux,
Windows, Free BSD, Solaris, AIX and Mac OS X have purchased
and implemented the solution within the first 90 days of
product availability.
"Business users wrestle with a flood of information
today. The time it takes to deal with unsolicited email
makes knowledge harder to attain and can cause a financial
strain on corporations due to the internal development of
expensive spam filters," said Tim Sloane, analyst, Sloane
Consulting of Valley View Ventures. "An integrated solution
such as the Stalker Software/Mailshell Linux plug-in is
easier to install, enables corporations to consume fewer
system resources and offers powerful spam prevention algorithms
that IT departments can rely on."
ISP provider Digicon Communications has been
using CommuniGate Pro for two years and recently deployed
SpamCatcher into the messaging platform. "We've taken over
numerous clients based on the fact that we provide a reliable
and secure email platform with an extremely accurate filtering
engine," said Russell Husling, vice president of Digicon
Communications. "The joint solution provides the most bang
for the buck. One of Digicon's servers, running both CommuniGate
Pro and SpamCatcher, has more than doubled our ROI, greatly
strengthening our presence in the marketplace." Other customers
are impressed by SpamCatcher's intelligent filtering system.
The SpamCatcher engine identifies unsolicited
email at the server level and integrates seamlessly into
the CommuniGate Pro platform. SpamCatcher uses more than
a thousand spam-blocking rules, including pattern matches,
heuristic functions and proprietary and third-party databases.
Complex algorithms are applied to compute the probability
that each piece of e-mail is spam. SpamCatcher also creates
a fingerprint ID for every e-mail message and compares it
to existing fingerprints in its databases in order to continuously
analyze new spam, create new rules and adjust the weighting
of existing rules. Customers can opt to receive scheduled
or real-time rules updates.
"Our joint solution with Stalker Software
has been exceptionally popular among Linux-based corporations
due to its ease of use and seamless integration within customers'
existing applications," said Tonny Yu, CEO of Mailshell.
"Integrating our core engine into common messaging and security
applications eliminates the need for enterprises to implement
third-party solutions, while providing extremely accurate
anti-spam functionality."
"Since effective email communication is a
core ingredient of a successful organization, all types
of businesses should definitely consider an anti-spam solution
to improve communication and productivity," said Jacinta
Tobin, vice president of Business Development at Stalker
Software. "Our joint solution has been popular for enterprises
in various industries, from ISP and educational institutions
to medical technology and advertising corporations."
Supporting more than 30 hardware and operating
system combinations including UNIX, Windows, AS/400, mainframes
and Mac OS X, CommuniGate Pro offers the most advanced,
robust messaging solution, optimized to provide email, collaboration,
wireless and unified messaging all on a single message store.
Because of the product's open standards-based architecture,
CommuniGate Pro provides high-performance integrated messaging,
supporting many types of content on a centralized platform
efficiently and reliably.
