Leading Spyware Expert Aluria to Offer "Powered by Mailshell" Spam Filter

LAKE MARY, FLA. , February 8, 2005 - Aluria Software, developer of anti-spyware and performance optimization technology, today announced that it will embed SpamCompiler technology from Mailshell, the OEM anti-spam leader, into its award-winning line of products. Aluria currently protects millions of consumers and businesses worldwide from spyware via major distribution partners including one of the largest Internet service providers. Aluria will launch Aluria Anti-Spam, its first 'Powered by Mailshell' spam filter later this month.

With the new partnership, Aluria will license and integrate Mailshell's SpamCompiler SDK which optimizes, compiles and executes more than one million filter checks in a fraction of a second to determine if a message is spam or not. By combining a fast, compact, flexible, complete decision tree with an automatically self-tuning intelligent engine, Mailshell's SpamCompiler consistently generates highly accurate results in recognizing foreign language spam, phishing and other forms of email fraud.

Aluria's expansion to spam filtering is a natural extension of its existing products which combine superior anti-spyware functionality with proactive screening that blocks malicious spyware code in real time, before it is installed on a user's computer. While most anti-spyware solutions merely scan and remove spyware files once they are installed on a user's computer, Aluria's real-time monitoring component - the Active Defense Shield (ADS) - detects spyware before it can be installed by monitoring any changes to the user's file system.

"Focusing on spam filtering is an important part of our overall mission given the malicious payload of the newest forms of spam," said Rick Carlson, president of Aluria Software. "Mailshell's SpamCompiler enhances spyware protection, and catches all types of spam-borne malicious code, phishing and other types email fraud."

"There is obvious synergy and untapped market opportunity in combining spyware and spam filtering technologies," said Tonny Yu, president and CEO of Mailshell. "We've been impressed with Aluria's expertise in security software development, and how it brings its technology to market via strong licensing and distribution," said Tonny Yu, president and CEO of Mailshell.

Mailshell's SpamCompiler SDK, the core engine driving Aluria's new spam products, is the leading anti-spam engine licensed by over 20 US and International OEMs and used by more than 5,000 enterprises and 10 million consumers on over a dozen platforms. The SDK starts at 200k of code, can handle over a million messages a day, and can be embedded almost anywhere. OEMs can immediately generate new anti-spam revenue, upsell existing products to new anti-spam customers, and cut anti-spam engineering and support to near zero.
