Overview
You can have Outlook 2000 filter AOL mail
with Mailshell Anti-Spam. There are a few easy steps to
get Outlook to filter your AOL mail for spam:
- For each Outlook email account you want filtered by
Mailshell Anti-Spam, you need to create a new e-mail account
in Outlook.
- Once the account is created, you need to configure Outlook
so you can send and receive mail from AOL's e-mail servers.
- After your account is configured, set up Mailshell Anti-Spam
to automatically scan your AOL folder.
Creating a New Account in Outlook
These step-by-step instructions will show
you how to create a new e-mail account in Outlook 2000.
Step 1
Choose Tools > Accounts from
the main menu.
Step 2
In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click
Add and then click Mail.
Step 3
In the Internet Connection Wizard, in the
"Display name" field, enter your name as you would like
it to appear on your outgoing e-mail messages and click
Next.
Step 4
In the "E-mail address field", enter your
full e-mail address (e.g., jane@aol.com).
You should see something like:
Click Next.
Step 5
On the E-mail Server Names screen, select
IMAP from the drop-down menu.
In the "Incoming mail server" field, enter:
imap.aol.com.
In the "Outgoing mail server" field, enter:
smtp.aol.com.
The screen should now look like:
Click Next.
Step 6
On the Internet Mail Logon screen, enter your
AOL screen name in the "Account name" field (in
the example, it is given as "jane").
Enter the password for your AOL account in
the "Password" field.
The screen should now look like:
Click Next.
Step 7
Select "Connect using my local area network
(LAN)". Note: This works even if you are not connected
through a LAN.
The screen should now look like:
Click Next and the Finish button
to save your settings. You'll be taken back to the main
window of Internet Accounts and your new account should
be listed.

When you are returned to the Internet Accounts
dialog box, click the Mail tab.
The screen should look similar to:
Please Note: If the Internet
Accounts dialog box is not open, click the Tools
menu and then click Accounts.

Select your AOL IMAP account, then click Properties.
Step 10
In the Properties dialog box, click the Servers
tab. In the "Incoming Mail server" section, make
sure your AOL screen name and password are entered. In the
"Outgoing Mail Server section", click the "My
server requires authentication" check box.
The screen should look similar to:

Click the Advanced tab. In the "Outgoing
Mail (SMTP):" field, change the number that displays
to 587.
The screen should look similar to:
Click Apply, then click OK and
finally click Close.

Scann Your AOL Folder

You may now add your AOL folder for Mailshell
Anti-Spam to scan. Start by clicking on the Mailshell Anti-Spam
icon
on the Mailshell Anti-Spam Outlook toolbar. On the Mailshell
Anti-Spam popup, under the General Options section, click
on "Enable Scan of Folders".
You should see something like:
Next, click the Add button. On the
popup menu, select the Inbox folder of your AOL account
to scan.
You should see something like:
Next, click the OK button
You should see something like:
Click OK. Outlook is now configured
to automatically scan your AOL folder for spam.
Congratulations! Outlook is now configured
to filter your AOL e-mail.
