Can I register a new domain to use for my disposable addresses?

Yes! If you have the Premium Service and would like to use a registered domain (your-name.com) instead of a Mailshell subdomain (your-name.mailshell.com) for your disposable addresses, you can do so by clicking the "Wouldn't you like to have "your-name".com?" link in the Disposable Email Addresses section of Spam Filtering. You will be asked to select from a list of available domains or enter a new one to search for. (If you already own a domain, you can also use that domain with Mailshell.)

Registered domain names are limited to 63 characters and can use only letters (a-z), and numbers (0-9), and they are not case-sensitive (e.g., "joe.com" is the same as "JoE.com"). Domain names containing hyphens (-) are not supported.

Registering a new domain to use with Mailshell costs $16.95 a year.

If you wish to have a website associated with your domain, the Premium Service gives you the option of either forwarding your domain to an existing website or specifying the IP address of an existing website.

If I already own a domain, can I use that for my disposable addresses?

Yes! If you have the Premium Service, own a .com, .net, or .org domain name, and would like to have Mailshell protect your email, there are two ways to do so:

• Transfer the entire domain to Mailshell. To do this, click the "Use Mailshell for your email!" link in the Disposable Email Addresses section of Spam Filtering and follow the directions related to transferring your domain.



• If you are an advanced user and have direct control over your DNS, you may prefer to update your MX records so that you can have Mailshell protect your email without transferring the domain. To do this, click the "Use Mailshell for your email!" link in the Disposable Email Addresses section of Spam Filtering and follow the directions related to DNS MX updating. Both options cost $16.95 a year. Note that once you have successfully transferred your domain or updated its MX records, you will still receive email sent to existing addresses at your subdomain (whether approved or pending), but you will not be able to create any new ones. All new addresses will need to use your new domain.

If I change to a registered domain, what happens to my subdomain?

You will still receive email sent to existing disposable addresses at your subdomain (whether approved or pending), but you will not be able to create any new ones. All new addresses will need to use your new registered domain.

Can I use more than one registered domain?

No, you can currently only have one registered domain for an account.

What if the domain I want is already taken?

If a search during the purchase shows that the domain you want is already taken, this means that another individual or organization has already registered it and it is no longer available. Simply enter another name you would like in the search box and click the "Next" button, or click the "more suggestions" link to see available names similar to the one you entered.

How long does it take for a new domain to be ready?

New domains can take up to two business days before they are ready to use. You will receive a confirmation email when your domain is ready.

If I register a new domain, will I own that domain?

Yes, you will own your domain. The name you provide with your credit card will be listed publicly in the WHOIS database as the organization registrant; to protect your privacy, Mailshell's address will be given. Mailshell will be listed as the administrative, technical, and billing contacts.

Will I be able to have a website at my domain?

No: unfortunately, to keep prices low, Mailshell currently cannot offer web hosting services. If you wish to have a website associated with your domain, the Premium Service gives you the option of either forwarding your domain to an existing website or specifying the IP address of an existing website.

Will I have the option of transferring my domain elsewhere in the future?

Yes, you do have the option of transferring a domain you have registered through Mailshell, although there will be a $20 processing fee. To do so, contact the new registrar you wish to use and have them request the transfer, then notify Mailshell Support. that you will be transferring your domain to this registrar.

If I change my mind about my domain, can I get a refund?

No, no refunds will be given for domains, whether they are new registered domains, existing domains that have been transferred, or existing domains that have had an MX update.

What domain suffixes do you support?

Mailshell currently supports only .com, .net, and .org domain suffixes.

Do you plan on offering more domain suffixes in the future?

No: due to additional costs and resources associated with other domain suffixes (.biz, .name, etc.), Mailshell is not planning on offering those in the near future.

What is a DNS MX record and how do I modify it to use Mailshell for my email?

DNS MX (Domain Name Service Mail eXchanger) refers to a domain name's mail server information. The MX record provides information about which servers handle the domain name's email storage, distribution, or redirection.

MX records contain the mail server name(s) and the priority setting assigned to each. For example:

MX Record: joe.com MX 10 mail.server.net

This MX record assigns mail.server.net a priority of 10 as the server handling email for joe.com. The priority number controls which mail servers are used first; values range from 0-99, with lower numbers corresponding to higher priority. The mail server with the highest priority is typically used for delivery of all email for the domain name, but if this primary server is unavailable, the server with the next highest priority will be used instead. (If an MX record contains two servers with the same priority number, both will have equal responsibility for email.)

If you are an advanced user with control over your DNS and would like Mailshell to handle email for your domain without transferring it entirely, you need to update your MX record with the following information:

*.at."yourdomain".com indicates a wildcard entry, so that anything.at."yourdomain".com (e.g., joe.at."yourdomain".com, jane.at."yourdomain".com) points to mail1.mailshell.com and mail2.mailshell.com. Please do not set the priority preference for either server to zero, and do not include any additional MX servers beyond those listed above; if you do, messages may be delayed or lost.
